You Say

By

Justice Riot May

You say you're an ally

you scream for my rights.

On the street at the courthouse

when no one's in sight.

You say let's all get together

on a Sunday and scream.

When there's no politicians

around for the scene.

You say oh don't worry

we'll fight beside you.

Until the time comes

to stand up for you.

Then all of a sudden

you'll have nothing to say.

Except it's just really hard

we might push them away.

You say they're someone we know

it's family a friend.

Calling them out

would just be too hard in the end.

Even if I tell you

it's transphobia

wrapped in a smile.

Or under the guise

of I'm just protecting my child.

You say we all know

their intent wasn't bad.

They're just trying to be

a good mom or good dad.

You say well maybe you

should just try to ignore it.

Please just let it go

we don't want to own it.
